Introducing Dota Levels

September 09, 2015

As part of today's update we're unveiling Dota Levels, the culmination of all of your accomplishments in Dota. Dota Levels are displayed as a badge on your Dota Profile based on your level, and are gained by earning trophies and playing matches. You can learn more about Dota Levels here.

We're also releasing the new Treasury and enabling the Tournaments area of the Watch section. The Treasury can be found in the Heroes section, and allows you to quickly browse, explore, and purchase treasures. The Tournaments area is where you'll be able to view matches and tournament details. We've also made a number of other small adjustments and bug fixes, which you can read about here.

Today we are rolling out a preload of the Reborn Update to all players that have not previously downloaded it. The Reborn Update will be coming to the main client for all Dota 2 players in the next day or two.

Additionally, if you purchased a Compendium for The International 2015, today you will receive the exclusive Harvest, Pestilence, and Sirocco Weather Effect items. We are still working on the Axe Comic/Immortal, as well as doing some tech work needed to support the Desert Terrain item. They will be granted to all Compendium owners as soon as they are ready.

Coming Soon: The Reborn Update

September 02, 2015

With The International behind us and the Majors just around the corner, we are excited to have the world start playing Dota in the brand-new Source 2 engine. Within the coming weeks, the main client will receive the Reborn Update. Moving away from the Source 1 engine soon will allow us to better focus our efforts entirely on Source 2 in preparation for various upcoming tournaments. There are still a few features that will need some work when the update is released, but we plan to finish them quickly. Expect the weeks that follow to focus on ironing out issues, refining the dashboard and iterating based on your feedback. Afterwards, we'll begin shifting our attention toward the in-game UI, where we plan to redesign the HUD and work on a variety of other in-game features.

Today's update to Reborn contains various bug fixes and improvements, as well as a large number of backend changes that result in a very large one-time download. Now would be a good time for everyone to start downloading the Reborn update, as you will not need to download it again when the main client receives the update in the coming weeks.

If you do not have the Reborn update installed and would like to get a head start on it now, launch the Dota client and head over to the Play Tab to get set up. All of your items are now in the Reborn client, and after today any new content will be added directly to Source 2 only.

Prepare for the Majors

August 22, 2015

This fall, a new tradition comes to the world of professional Dota. The Majors are a series of four seasonal marquee tournaments culminating in The International. The first Major will be occuring in Europe this November and we'll have more details on ticketing soon.

Ahead of this Major, there will be Open Qualifiers from October 6-9, and Regional Qualifiers from October 10-13. Any team may participate in an Open Qualifier, and two teams from each region will be among those invited to participate in the Regional Qualifiers. The Regional Qualifiers will then determine several of the teams to be invited to battle at the Major. Direct invitations to the Major and the Regional Qualifiers will be announced on October 5th.

If your team would like to be considered for an invitation to either the Regional Qualifiers or the Major directly, head over to the registration site for more information. Any team that makes changes to its roster after September 5th 2015 at 12:00AM PDT cannot be directly invited to the Regional Qualifiers or Major, and must compete in the Open Qualifiers.
